Delhi Township Rejects Data Center

The Delhi Township board voted 6-0 Friday to formally oppose a proposed $10 billion data center near Holt, just three days after developers pitched it.

Hundreds of residents packed the meeting, most of them opposed, though a handful urged the board not to condemn a project that hasn’t been formally proposed.

The resolution asks Lighthouse Sustainability to keep its word that it would walk away without community support. Township officials say they learned of the plan when it was announced, and they ended their partnership with the Lansing Economic Area Partnership a day later.

Backers say the project would bring about 100 permanent jobs and roughly $53 million in local tax revenue.

Freshman QB Lifts Michigan Past Rutgers

Freshman quarterback Tommy Carr broke a 21-21 tie with a 9-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter as Michigan beat Rutgers 28-21 yesterday.

Making his second start since taking over for Bryce Underwood, Carr passed for 266 yards and a touchdown and ran for two scores, finishing with a career-high 320 yards.

In Kalamazoo, Western Michigan snapped a three-game skid against Bowling Green with a 23-10 win, highlighted by Cole Cabana’s 82-yard touchdown run.

Michigan State had the week off, setting up next Saturday’s battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have won four straight against the Spartans.

Students Brew Skills at Coffee Nest

Forest Hills Eastern High School has a new coffee shop on campus, and it’s run by students in the school’s autism program.

Six students take orders, make drinks, handle money, and serve customers at The Coffee Nest on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Rowster Coffee donated 500 pounds of coffee to help get the shop going.

“This place, it just puts me in my happy place,” said student barista Jocelyn Tierney, whose favorite drink to make is a mocha.

The shop serves only staff for now, but organizers hope to open it to students and eventually expand to the school’s two other autism classrooms.
