   Stevens Endorses Rogers for Senate

Democrat U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers at Detroit’s Perfecting Church on Sunday, two days before Election Day. The appearance came after she was asked to stay away from a planned unity event with Democrat nominee Abdul El-Sayed. Rep. Debbie Dingell, who organized the event, said the dispute had become a distraction. Stevens later said El-Sayed told her she was no longer welcome in his campaign.

Rogers praised Stevens as “a courageous leader who deserves the respect of every Michigan voter.” Her endorsement reverses her pledge to support the Democrat nominee after losing the August primary to El-Sayed.

The rift flared when Stevens demanded that El-Sayed condemn an outside group’s ad linking U.S. aid to Israel with grocery prices; she called the ad antisemitic. El-Sayed said the ad was not his campaign’s and that he disagreed with its content. The race is for the seat held by retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters.

Michigan Health Premiums Rise 14%

Michiganders who buy their own health insurance will pay an average of 14.2% more in 2027, and small-group plans for businesses with fewer than 51 employees will rise 9.6%.

The increases hit about 400,000 people on individual plans and another 400,000 on small-group plans, and shoppers will have 143 marketplace plans to choose from statewide, up from 116 this year.

Open enrollment runs Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, and people must sign up by Dec. 15 for coverage that starts Jan. 1. Anita Fox, director of the state Department of Insurance and Financial Services, said “now is the best time for Michiganders to prepare so they can make timely and informed decisions.”

Judge Reinstates GR Catholic Central

A Kent County judge has ordered the The Michigan High School Athletic Association to reinstate Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the Division 5 football playoffs, a day after the association removed the Cougars for using an ineligible player.

The MHSAA had cleared the player, who enrolled in January, but reversed its ruling on the eve of the playoffs, saying his family hadn’t made a “full and complete” move. The forfeits cost the Cougars five wins and their playoff spot.

A senior on the team, not the school, sought the temporary restraining order. It requires the first-round game against Comstock Park to start before 7 p.m. Tuesday. The MHSAA said it disagrees with the order and wasn’t given a chance to take part in the proceedings, and a hearing is set for Nov. 6.
