Former MSU Doctor Arrested in Atlanta

A former Michigan State University resident physician was arrested in Atlanta Thursday night on felony charges that he sexually assaulted two patients during appointments at an MSU Health Care facility.

Arpit Saxena, 39, faces three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree. A judge signed the warrant with no bond. Because he was picked up at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, he hasn’t been arraigned yet.

A patient reported the first assault to campus police in April 2025, minutes after leaving her appointment. Saxena was pulled from patient care four days later and dismissed. A second woman came forward during the investigation.

MSU said it is contacting every patient Saxena saw between July 2024 and April 2025. “Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and professionalism,” the university said, “and we regret that this trust was broken.” Ingham County prosecutors authorized the warrant Sept. 3.

FBI Takes Over Hastings Ricin Case

The FBI is now leading the investigation into a suspected ricin discovery in Hastings, where 145 people remain out of their homes three days after an evacuation emptied the Tyden Lofts apartment building.

The case began Thursday when a person walked into Corewell Health Pennock Hospital with a substance and told staff they had made it in their own apartment. Preliminary testing indicated ricin. Lab work to confirm it is ongoing.

“We recognize that the response to an incident like this can be disruptive and concerning for residents,” said Jennifer Runyan, who heads the FBI’s Detroit Field Office, asking for time to collect evidence and determine what happened.

The building requires full chemical decontamination before anyone returns, and no timeline has been set. The Red Cross is running a shelter at the Commission on Aging on Woodlawn Avenue, where meals and beds are free to anyone displaced.

Wolverines Knock Off No. 11 Sooners

Michigan’s defense forced two turnovers as the unranked Wolverines upset No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10 Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

Bryce Underwood opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run, and Michigan led 10-0 at halftime before Oklahoma scored 10 unanswered to tie it early in the fourth.

With 8:40 left, Jyaire Hill intercepted John Mateer and returned it to the Sooners’ 6. Jordan Marshall scored two plays later, and Oklahoma never picked up another first down.

Neither offense reached 300 yards. “Great response by Bryce, he played an excellent game,” coach Kyle Whittingham said afterward. Michigan hosts UTEP next Saturday at 2-0.
